The United Committee Manipur has not tried to build up a communal tension but it simply condemned the acts of the armed activists of an underground group towards the villagers of Mapou village after assessing on spot the ground situation.
The assistant IPR secretary, N Jiten, in a statement dispatched to the media today, said that the UCM team with some media persons visited the Mapou village under Saikhul sub-division of Senapati district after the alleged assault of villagers there on the night of August 31. During the spot visit, the team came to know that around 30 villagers were beaten up by the armed miscreants on the alleged charged of being informers and threatening to leave the village within five to six days.
The UCM condemned the act only after hearing the revelations of the villagers including the pastor, village chief etc.
No question of building of a communal tension arose while visiting the village, the statement said.
The committee condemned the assault of villagers' en-masse while searching out some informers, the statement reiterated asserting that UCM is among the bodies working for strengthening the bond of brotherhood loves among the different communities and for safeguarding the territorial integrity of the state.
