CRAM representative attends UN Summit

A representative of Centre for Research and Advocacy, Manipur (CRAM) had attended the UN Summit on Post 2015 to adopt sustainable development goals during the UN General Assembly Summit from Sept 25-27 at UN Hqtrs in New York, USA.
According to a statement, Jiten Yumnam, secretary of CRAM, who attended the summit, was among the seven members delegation of CSO Partnership for Development Effectiveness from across the globe.
On Sept 25, the UN adopted the Sustainable Development Goals, a new global development agenda replacing the Millennium Development Goals adopted in 2000 with a focus 'leave no one behind' .
During the summit, Y Jiten joined other civil society organisations across the world in both official and outside events to adopt a people oriented and environment friendly sustainable development goals, respectful of human rights, self-determination and based on rightful participation of marginalised communities in development decision making in their land and territories.
The continued lack of accountability of corporate bodies, such as in Manipur and non-adherence to human rights and the importance of recognising indigenous peoples self-determined development is focused during the engagements with the post 2015, it said.
Jiten had also attended the previous negotiations on the Post 2015 negotiations and made interventions during the 6th Inter-Governmental Negotiations on SDGs and the 3rd HLPF from June 21 - July 8 at the UNHQ, pressing the member States of the UN to desist from insisting on unsustainable and a corporate led development processes which led to devastation of people's lives and environment and that facilitated State suppression.
Jiten Yumnam also earlier attended the UN conference on Environment and Development at Rio De Janeiro, Brazil in June 2012 which resolved to frame the UN SDGs by 2015 .
