Irabot remembered at his birth place

The 119th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot was also celebrated at his birth place Pishum Oinam Leikai in Imphal West on Wednesday.
Floral tributes were paid at the statue of Irabot during the function organised by Hijam Irabot Celebration Committee, Oinam Leikai.
Participating in the celebration as the chief guest, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar urged that all communities of the State should desist from all sorts of intolerant activities.
He said all groups in the State should push forward for peace and development.
Dr Ratankumar was of the opinion that nobody in the State has ever been able to pursue Hijam Irabot's political vision for a united Manipur and for an equal society.
"It's high time we analyzed the thinking of Irabot to make use of it for the common benefit of the present Manipur," the Works Minister appealed.
During the function, CPI Manipur State Council secretary Dr M Nara was the president.
In his speech, Dr Nara expressed his desire to the State Government to put up a signboard depicting as "Irabot Road" along the Mayai Lambi already announced as Irabot Road by the Government.
On the occasion, Kesihamthong constituency MLA L Ibomcha was the guest of honour.
He observed that the current trouble besieging the hills would have been avoided if Irabot was still alive.
Irabot Celebration Committee chairperson Sapamcha Jadumani was also present on the dais during the event.
In the evening programme of the Irabot birth anniversary celebration at Pishum Oinam Leikai, titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba attended as the chief guest and Irabot Celebration Committee vice chairman H Dilip as the president.
Former minister L Jayentakumar, former MLA Kh Joykishan, PANDAM chief executive editor N Tomba and Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) convenor in-charge Khomdram Ratan attended the function as the guests of honour.
