Hijam Irabot remembered on 119th birth anniversary

Thousands of people from all walks of life paid rich tribute to the great leader of Manipur, Hijam Irabot on the occasion of his 119th birth anniversary which was widely observed across the valley districts.
One of the events in Imphal was organised by Jananeta Hijam Irabot Birthday Celebration Committee at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) Hall of Yaiskul Police Lane on Wednesday.
The observance began with paying floral tributes to the photograph of the late leader followed by an opening song dedicated to him.
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who attended the function as the Chief Guest said that people of Manipur have been observing the great leader's anniversary every year to translate his "words into action and fulfill his dreams." Irabot's sacrifice and teachings were all for the people of Manipur, said the Deputy Chief Minister.

On the occasion, Gaikhangam said that Manipur is now witnessing unrest due to the exclusivist nature of putting forth sectarian or community based interests against the ideal collective ones.
Urging all to set aside differences, the Deputy Chief Minister appealed all to shoulder responsibilities and bring peace, unity and brotherhood.
He said this can be the true meaning of "nationalism" .
Gaikhangam also reiterated that no force will be able to break the territorial integrity of Manipur.
He however said that people should not sit idle and instead they should "think positively and walk together" .
"We are not afraid of few sections who have continuously threatened the territorial boundary and integrity of the State.
People should be aware of those "anti-social elements" who are trying to mislead them", said Gaikhangam.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that dismembering the territorial integrity of Manipur where people of both the hills and valley have been living together since time immemorial will be a "sin" .
He reiterated that Manipur will not exist without the Nagas, Kukis, Meeteis and Meetei Pangal" and urged everyone to sacrifice for the people and fulfill Irabot's dreams.
Gaikhangam also said that laws are made for the welfare of the people and appealed all to "come together and talk" so as to sort out differences.
While urging the people to pinpoint any mistakes committed by the Government, Gaikhangam assured that the ruling dispensation was willing to reform itself.
Prominent persons including Celebration Committee Chairman Meitram Samu, Dr Y Ibopishak, Ksh Santa, Ksh Ibohal, MDU President and many more attended the observation.
A book titled "Lamyanba Irabot" authored by Telem Upendra was also released on the occasion.
