V Shanmuganathan sworn in as Governor

V Shanmuganathan has been sworn in as the 17th Governor of Manipur today.
High Court of Manipur Chief Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra administrated the oath of office and secrecy to V Shanmuganathan at a swearing-in ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Rajbhavan.
V Shanmuganathan is the incumbent Governor of Meghalaya and he has been given the additional charge of Manipur following the death of Manipur Governor Syed Ahmed on September 27 .
The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, DGP Shahid Ahmed, Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga, Ministers, MLAs, leaders of various political parties and high ranking Government officials.

Later, the Governor was given the guard of honour by a contingent of Manipur Rifles.
Speaking to media persons after the swearing in ceremony, V Shanmuganathan said that all the people of the country should be united as one and there should be no differentiation and discrimination on the basis of caste and creed.
The Governor said that he has dedicated his life to the service of the people to maintain unity among the people of different communities.
He also said that he had organized different unity conferences in different parts of the country.
From Himalaya to Kanyakumari and Gujarat to Moreh, the country is one and every inch of the Nation is a holy place for every citizen, he observed.
The Governor said that people must never forget that they all are brothers and sisters.
V Shanmuganathan said that he used to travel from one place to another to build unity before he was sworn in as the Governor of Meghalaya in May this year.
He had worked with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for a long period of time, the Governor said.
Saying that he would remain apolitical and neutral, V Shanmuganathan said that anybody may approach him and he will be ready to meet them.
