Tamenglong, December 09 2017:
The JAC on Village Drinking Water and Sanitation Committee has urged the then Executive Engineer, PHED, Tamenglong, N Birbal Singh to release the remaining bill of the construction work of Individual Household Latrine (IHHL), which was taken up at different villages of Tamenglong district .
A press release issued by the committee stated that, as per the direction and guidelines of PHED, Tamenglong and under the Swachh Bharat Mission, 2015-2016, many villages formed Village and Drinking Water and Sanitation Committee (VDW&SC) at their respective villages to take up the construction work of IHHL .
Although, the work were duly executed and the respective committees submitted their required completion report within the deadline, the then Executive Engineer, N Birbal Singh had withdrawn the complete bill but distributed only 50 percent of the total bill, the committee alleged .
13 committees from various villages joined hands and formed a JAC on SBM (IHHL) in Tamei block and repeatedly appealed Birbal to release the remaining bill, however, the EE has turned a blind eye to the appeal of the committees till date, it said .
"The work was not executed by an individual or on contract basis but it was executed by the committees, which was formed at the grassroots level, on consensus of its respective villages", the statement added .
The JAC considers the act of the EE as an attempt to loot public fund, which is meant for basic and necessary development of the most backward and underprivileged people of Tamei Sub Division, Tamenglong district .
It has urged the officials and authority concerned to resolve the matter at the earliest and cautioned that the JAC will not be held responsible if any unwanted incident occurs in the near future.
