Imphal, May 30:
Demanding release of Mayengbam Santoshkumar, general secretary of students union of DM College of Arts, who has been
reportedly arrested by the commandos of Imphal West District Police on May 26 within June 1, the students of the college have threatened to launch
various intense form of agitations from June 2, if he is not released by then.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Boys Hostel of the College
today, finance secretary of the college students union Heikham Amujao said Santoshkumar had gone out on May 26 carrying along with him Rs 48,000
for buying a new bike.
But late in the night a message came from Imphal Police Station informing about the arrest and asking to come for verification.
Refuting the police claim that Santoshkumar has nexus with one underground organisation, Amujao asserted that he is only a student leader who
works for the welfare of the students community.
The attitude of the security personnel to arrest innocent persons and later dubbing them as
underground activists or having connection with outlawed organisations is condemnable, the finance secretary said.
If Santoshkumar is not released by June 1,
the college students union and in association with other student bodies would launch various forms of intense agitation from the next day along with
closure of the administrative blocks of the college.
Assistant monitor of the Boys Hostel M Laksman, who was also present at the occasion,
disclosed that an ultimatum for the safe release of Santoshkumar had already been served to Education Minister Francis Ngajokpa.
