Imphal, May 30:
Acting on a contempt petition, the Imphal bench of the Guwahati High Court has today asked the Commissioner/Secretary Cooperation Letkhogin Haokip and Principal Secretary Finance RC Mishra to appear before the Court on June 6 at 10.30 am.
The order followed the contempt case filed by a group called 16 Beneficiaries Handloom Work-shed Association, said advocate BP Sahu who appeared on behalf of the beneficiaries.
The contempt case followed after the Govt respondents failed to comply with an earlier Court's order, the counsel added.
Mention may be made here that the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Textile Handloom Division) had sanctioned some amount in 1999 for constructing handloom shed for tribals.
However the petitioners were deprived of such project and therefore the petitioners filed a writ petition before the Court to demand their share.
As a result the court on Nov 26, 2002 asked the Govt to pay the scheme amount to the beneficiaries immediately after the ban imposed by the RBI on encashing money was lifted.
Though the RBI had in many instances lifted its ban, the Govt failed to release the amount culminating the petitioners in filing the contempt petition.
