Imphal, May 30:
Even as the Government has entrusted the ZEO of Churachandpur to provide the inputs and documents of the teachers who were implicated by the KYKL in the fake appointment scam, the said officer has been arrested on charges of being involved in the over Rs 12 crore fraudulent withdrawal of funds as pensions for retired Head Pandits.
Police sources said that the ZEO, Seboi Gangte, who was previously the DI/DDO of CCpur was picked up by Churachandpur police and was later taken to Imphal.
A Special Investigation Team of CCpur police led by SDPO Haobijam Jogeshchandra and assisted by four SIs are currently probing the matter, said sources.
A top ranking officer of the Education Department informed that the Law Department has been sounded over the possibilities of recovering at least 50 percent of the withdrawn amount from the pensions of the retired teachers, who are implicated in the case.
Police have also registered cases against an MLA and two former Directors of the Department in connection with the case, added the source.
Meanwhile the State Government has asked the ZEO of CCpur to furnish the relevant information about the two officials who masterminded the fake appointments of 41 teachers.
The details of the named teachers have also been sought.
The two were hauled up by the KYKL and produced before the media yesterday where they admitted to the charges and gave details about the teachers appointed on the sly.
The ZEO has been told to submit the relevant reports about the two master minds by tomorrow, said the source further.
Steps will also be taken to dismiss the three master minds who were earlier hauled up by the KYKL on the same charge, said the source.
The three are under suspension.
The king pin behind the vast scale of fake appointments in CCpur is Senior Accountant Leichongkhong, said the source.
Police have also registered cases all the teachers who were appointed on the sly.
The three employees have however informed the Govt that they are not guilty of the charges framed against them.
