Life sentence for murder convict

Imphal East Session Judge Gaiphulshillu Golmei today sentenced a 54 year old murder convict to life imprisonment.
The sentence was announced in an open Court today after the sentence hearing against the murder convict Konsam Henba @ Irabanta s/o (L) K Rashi singh of Khurai Thangjam Leikai, Chingangbam leirak Konsam Henba was convicted on October 30 under Section 302 (Murder) for murdering a relative on January 15, 2016 .
The sentence was passed after the Court heard the submission of M Bisambhor PP (District) for the State and Advocate B Supriya Devi legal aid counsel for the defense counsel.
During the sentence hearing the PP submitted that the convict has been convicted for the offence punishable under section 302 of Indian Penal Code for murdering Konsam Thawailemba and prayed to award the maximum penalty to the convict.
On the other hand the legal Aid counsel in defense of the convict submitted to punish the convict to a lesser degree pointing out that there are no other cases against him.
She also submitted that the convict is not a habitual offender and he has no prior conviction in connection with any criminal offence and also submitted that the convict is still young and prayed for giving a chance to correct himself.
Defense counsel also pointed out that the convict was in judicial custody till he was released on bail and prayed for setting aside the period from his sentence.
After hearing both parties and after perusal of the relevant documents and considering the nature of the crime and the matter in which the crime was executed, the Court sentenced Konsam Henba to imprisonment for life.
