Kut festival turns tragic for poor Siloi resident, TSA urges Govt to nab culprits

The spirit of Chavang Kut, the biggest post harvesting festival of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo community turned out to be tragic for a poor quarry labourer from Siloi village.
Lamminthang Kipgen (34) succumbed to his injuries in a hit and run incident along the National Highway-2 near Sapormeina under Gamnom-Sapormeina Police Station yesterday evening at around 6.30 pm.
He hurriedly moved out from home to join his friends for the night session of Kut festival at Kangpokpi DHQs, reports our correspondent.
He is survived by his wife and three sons.
While many people from across the State are enjoying the blissful night at M Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi, the poor family members mourned the dead of their only bread earner, in the presence of few relatives.
On receiving the news of the hit and run incident, Sapormeina Police immediately rushed to the spot and recovered the lifeless body of Lamminthang Kipgen and deposited it at RIMS Morgue, Imphal.
Speaking to media persons, the wife Lamboichong (23) said that he was so interested in Kut celebration this year that he brought his family for the noon session at Kangpokpi district and let them experience the enjoyment of the festival.
Before leaving for the night session of the festival, Lamminthang Kipgen told his youngest son that he would return soon only to never return back, said the heartbroken wife.
She said that he was the sole bread earner in the family and despite of his meagre source of income, he enthusiastically admitted his eldest son (who is in KG-II standard) at one of the prestigious school in the district.
His second son is 4 years old and the youngest is only two and half years old.
Seeking assistance from the State Government, the unfortunate wife stated that she will not claim her husband's body until and unless the authorities concerned book the culprits involved in the incident.
She further sought assistance from the State Government considering the pitiable condition of the family.
The deceased's sister has also appealed the State Government and the authority concerned not to leave any stone unturned regarding the incident and nab the culprits at the earliest, while seeking help from the Govt for the poor bereaved family.
On the other hand, Thadou Students Association (TSA) Sadar Hills visited the bereaved family today afternoon at Siloi village and consoled the family while sharing the pain and grief of the family members.
Thangpimang, social and culture secretary of TSA said that as per the decision of the deceased's wife, the dead body of Lamminthang Kipgen will not be claimed until and unless the culprits involved are booked at the earliest.
He urged the State Government to provide appropriate compensation considering the huge loss and the financial condition of the family.
The student body also served three days ultimatum to the concerned authority to trace and book the culprits and warned to resort to various form of agitation including bandh and blockade along the National Highway-2 if the Govt fails to carry out its responsibility.
