Imphal, August 01 2013:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has brought various infrastructure inadequacies of Wangkhei High School to light.
The school was upgraded to the status of a Government model school in 2010 .
During an inspection drive conducted by a team of the students' body, indication of quality being not maintained at the time of construction of three classrooms under RMSA was detected.
While iron rods of windows could be pulled out without much effort, bricks of the wall could also be easily removed.
As the classrooms posed serious threat to students, DESAM volunteers asked the school authority not to conduct classes in these rooms.
The model school doesn't have toilet for teachers, school Chowkidar and kitchen for midday meal.
According to the Principal of the school, Y Mirabai, the school authority has been left to no option but to engage a Chowkidar of their own with the salary of the Chowkidar being incurred by the contributions made by the teachers.
The school, which has 234 students including 103 girls, has only one toilet.
The school also doesn't have electric and water supply connections.
DESAM secretary general Arambam Thoithoi said that Government has failed to take care of the needs of Wangkhei High School after it has been upgraded to the status of a Government model school.
Saying that the institute is being plagued with various infrastructure inadequacies, Thoihtoi demanded, Education Minister translates his promise to bring change in education sector within six months into action.
