Meet stresses on protection of natural resources

Imphal, August 01 2013: Renowned social scientist Dr.Dhanabir Laishram today stated that we should try to be the owner of our land and the resources above and below the land.

He was speaking as a resource person of a day-long convention programme on the theme of, "Protection of Agricultural Land in Manipur" organized by Irabot Foundation Manipur at Manipur Dramatic Union, Yaiskul Police Lane here.

Dr Dhanabir further said that indigenous people should have the idea of value sharing; else our virgin petroleum and uranium resources will fall into the hands of multi-national corporations thereby leaving us poor.

He also enlisted the demerits of Food Security Bill and proposed that it is high time for the farmers to wake up before becoming victims of suicide.

Speaking on the topic 'Market Policy Vs Farmers,' Associate Professor Central Agricultural University Dr.Kh.

Ibohal stated that the government should frame a proper market policy for the farmers to bring about a self sufficient society.

Moderator of the convention, Dean of Social Sciences, Manipur University Dr..EBijoy recommended that a comprehensive study on land use should be done.

He also suggested that we should campaign for protection of other resources besides land resource.

College Development Council Director Dr.R.K Ranjan and Senior Geographer, Govt.of Manipur Dr.Moirangthem Manimohon were among other resource persons who attended the convention.

Earlier, the inaugural function of the convention was attended by Editor of Freedom R.K Ranendrajit, Irabot Foundation Manipur President Th.Iboyaima and IPSA Advisor Heikrujam Ibotombi Khuman as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
