Imphal, January 17 2022:
Maring Students' Union has alleged that there are various discrepancies in the final electoral roll for Tengnoupal AC and warned of strong agitation if the issue is not addressed within a week.
Silhi Morung, president Maring Students' Union said this at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today and alleged that a new village called 'Yangoutubi' has been newly included in the Sibong (42/52) Polling Station.
Sibong Polling Station was formerly part of Kwatha.
He further said that 'Yangoutubi' village is not part of the list of villages in Tengnoupal as listed in Manipur Gazette.
With the addition of the new village, 31 new voters have also been added to the electoral roll.
Silhi Morung questioned from where the newly added voters had come from and whether the relevant authorities had not conducted verification of the new voters.
Silhi Morung added that in the final electoral roll published on January 15, 2022, 155 voters have increased at Polling Station 42/70 Moreh Ward No 9 (A) as compared to the list that was published in November 2021.As in most cases newly added voters are usually people who have just attained the age of 18, but in this case all the voters are above 40 years of age.
The number of households has also increased from 296 to more than 300 .
The president of Maring Students' Union further alleged that the District Election Officer had published the final electoral roll without giving due time for hearing and objection against inclusion or removal of voters in the list.
The student body also raised suspicion if there was a conspiracy in the publication of the final electoral roll.
Silhi Morung warned of strong agitation which might lead to social unrest if the issue is not redressed within a week.
