Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) under Green India Scheme

An awareness programme cum Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercise on Green India Mission 2011-12 was observed today at Chawangkining Village under the aegis of the Divisional Forest Officer, Northern Forest Division, Kangokpi.
The programme, under the Green India Mission Scheme, was the first of its kind to be conducted in this division, covered under the Senapati district.
Chief of Chawangkining Village, P Gaithou presided the proceedings with Kangpokpi Divisional Forest Officer, DFO PV Guite as the Chief Guest and Retd DFO Sh Samu as the resource person.
Speaking at the event, Sh Samu conveyed the importance of forest in the survival of humankind and the immediate necessity to utilize forest resources sensibly, further stating that it would be selfish on our part to rip the forest of its products for our own good.
Sending out domestic animals to graze the forest also contributes to the deteriorating condition of the forests added Sh Samu, also suggesting the need for enforcing specific area for grazing.
To save and sustain the forests it is necessary to form Zone Forest Committees with the involvement of villagers, he opined.
Chief Guest PV Guite stressed on global warming issue, insisting strongly on the need of people's participation in saving the forests.
The event concluded successfully with an interractive session with the villagers.
