Imphal, June 15 2012:
The whereabouts of an inmate of Shajiwa jail, who had been released without informing family members, is reported to be not known till today.
The missing inmate is identified as Ngangom Soviet Meetei alias Chingkhei (35), s/o Ng Tomba of Napet Pali.
Addressing media persons in this regard at Manipur Press Club here today, Modhu, the worried mother of Soviet informed that her son was arrested by a combined team of Tripura police and Assam Rifles from Jugindro Nagar, Tripura on August 7 last on alleged charge of being a member of KCP (MC) .
The mother further informed that after all the charges leveled against her son and the detention under NSA was revoked, she along with other members of the family went to get him out from the jail on June 13 .
However, the family members could not meet the SP in-charge of the jail till late in the evening.
So, they returned home that day and went back to jail the following day along with the release order from the Court.
But to their surprise, the jail authority informed that Soviet had already been released without giving information to the family members.
The officials concerned of Sajiwa Jail told family members that Soviet has been taken away by Imphal East Commandos.
But when the family members enquired about the whereabouts of Soviet, the Imphal East commandos said that he had been further taken away by personnel of 30 Assam Rifles.
Accordingly, the family members approached 30 Assam Rifles only to be told that Soviet had been along Imphal Dimapur road.
Since then, Soviet's whereabouts has remained traceless, Modhu informed.
Drawing the attention of Home Minister Gaikhangam, the worried mother appealed to all the concerned to make known the whereabouts of her son at the earliest possible.
