Review meeting held

In the light of the recent Supreme Court directive and as adivised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, a one-day review meeting on the implementation of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC and PNDT Act) of eight North East States was held at Hotel Classic today.
According to experts who spoke at the meeting, the updated sex ratio of the country is 954-958 females per 1000 males.
And the reason why the male population is higher than female population is yet to be ascertained, they added.
Saying that sex ratio is quite low in Imphal East and Churachandpur districts, experts said that Imphal East district has only 847 females per 1000 males while Churachandpur has 908 females per 1000 males.
These two districts need special attention regarding the matter, they said.
