Imphal, August 08 2018:
Manipur University community has strongly condemned the 'brute behaviour' of State security personnel during the last three days, including the incident of Aug 6, when security personnel used tear gas shells and other explosives to disperse crowd, which caused injuries to the students and staff of the University.
It added that the State security personnel broke the lock of the southern gate of Manipur University and put a lock of their own, and allegedly warned anybody against opening it.
A statement issued by president of MUTA and MUSA claimed that the police personnel frisked everybody coming out of the University campus today while a huge number of police personnel surrounded the University campus the previous day, as if there was going to be an ambush or a war.
They also claimed that the recent action of police personnel, targeting members of Manipur University community make them feel that the State security forces are planning to create an atmosphere, facilitating re-enactment of fake encounters in and around Manipur University campus.
They also questioned the State Government, if the members of the BJP are trying to give credence to the claim in Parliament by a BJP member that Manipur University is a den of insurgents.
The MU community demanded that the naked show of strength by the State security personnel towards the staff and students be stopped immediately.
