Imphal, August 08 2018:
The JAC formed in connection with the death of a newborn baby at Bishnupur District Hospital on August 4, has alleged that the entire incident occurred due to the negligence of the doctors and nurses present at the hospital and has also informed that an FIR has been lodged at Bishnupur PS in connection with the incident.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, the JAC convenor Takhellambam (o) Bimol Devi said that the mother of the deceased child, Soibam (o) Omitarani ( 31) w/o Soibam Meghajit of Khoijuman Mayai Leikai, was rushed to the District Hospital on August 4.She alleged that the doctors and nurses failed to carry the mother inside the delivery room and the baby was delivered on the hospital bed itself.
Bimol Devi claimed that on the day, Omitarani was brought to the hospital at around 10.30 am and based on the advice of the doctors she was admitted.
The doctors had informed that the delivery could take place at around 3/4 pm.
When Omitarani began feeling unwell, the family members informed the doctors but the family members were told that the patient would be checked after 4 pm.
As Omitarani's condition worsened, the family members complained again to the doctors and nurses but they were neglected by the said staff, she claimed.
Then at around 2 pm, one doctor came to attend to the patient but after saying that the delivery might take place at around 3/4 pm.
However, after that, she could not be found any more at the hospital.
Bimol Devi continued that after Omitarani's condition worsened further, the nurses at the hospital recommended to conduct the delivery at the hospital bed itself and no attempts were made to shift the patient inside the delivery room.
She continued that after the delivery, the baby was carried inside the delivery room by the doctors and nurses but after some time, they informed the husband of the patient and the mother in-law that the child had died.
Accusing the staff of negligence leading to the death of the newborn baby, Bimol Devi demanded the authority concerned to take up proper actions against the doctors and nurses of the hospital.
On the other hand, the brother of Omitarani, Wairakpam Okendro demanded the Health Department to investigate into the matter and take up necessary actions at the earliest.
He also claimed that the Health Department has constituted a special medical board constituted by five doctors to investigate the matter.
