For Dr Uthan, nothing matters more than duty

Dr Th Uthan is a leading warrior in the protracted battle against COVID-19 in the State.
Dr Th Uthan who works in the General Medicine Department of JNIMS has been fighting the COVID-19 battle at the forefront since a young woman from Thangmeiband was tested positive for the contagion for the first time in the State.
Since then, Dr Uthan has been treating COVID-19 patients with full dedication and tirelessly.
Dr Uthan was climbing a ramp towards the COVID ward of JNIMS at around 11.30 am today when he suddenly broke down.

Incidentally, the whole scene was found captured in the form of a video and it went viral on social media in no time.
A COVID-19 positive individual was brought to JNIMS early this morning.
Wearing PPE, Dr Uthan struggled for almost two hours to save the patient, said JNIMS Director Prof Th Bhimo.
As he got exhausted after doing his duty for a long period wearing PPE, Dr Uthan collapsed on the ramp.
Dr Uthan had his right elbow injured and bleeding after he collapsed on the ramp.
Nonetheless, another COVID-19 positive man quickly came to the doctor's aid and put him on a wheelchair.
As he regained consciousness on reaching the COVID-19 ward, he examined another patient there although he was staggering and could not walk properly, said the Director.
As seen in the video clip which went viral and won hearts of many netizens, Dr Uthan somehow managed to stand up after reaching the COVID ward and examined one COVID-19 patient, pulled him up and sent him to ICU on the same wheelchair on which he (Dr Uthan) was brought to the COVID ward.
Dr Uthan followed the patient on foot, staggering and struggling to keep himself going.
The Director said that Dr Uthan has been working at JNIMS as a Senior Resident doctor since the hospital was set up.
From the very beginning, he has been serving all patients with a strong sense of dedication, Dr Bhimo added.
On being enquired if another doctor would be assigned COVID-19 duty in his place, Dr Uthan maintained he would continue his duty till the completion of his roster period.
The Director said that Dr Uthan was doing his duty inside the COVID-19 ward at the time he was talking to this reporter.
