Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council turns hub for corrupt activities: Ward Members

The Wangjing Lamding Municipal Council has become a hub for corrupt and illegal practices for some individuals, said two Ward Members of the Municipal Council while urging immediate intervention of the authorities concerned.
A joint statement issued by Members representing 4/2 of Ward Number 4, Soibam Sanjoy Singh and another representing 7/1 of Ward Number 7, alleged that Councillor of Ward Number 4 in collusion with the Executive Officer of the Municipal Council has turned the body into a hub of corruption and illegal activities amid the COVID-19 crisis.
The two members alleged that the said officials have withdrawn 1st and 2nd instalments for work programmes for Ward Number 4 under 14th Finance Commission General Basic Grants and funds under 3rd State Finance Commission without the knowledge of Ward Member (4/2), it said.
The two Ward Members alleged that the Bank Account of the Ward Number 4's Development Committee was opened in the name of Ward Councillor, Member of Ward Number 4/1 and Executive Officer of the Municipal Council.
Moreover, the Member of Ward 4/2 was never informed at the time of sending work proposals to be taken up in the Ward Number 4 and at the time of withdrawal of any fund, it said while adding that all concerned had also turned down his request for audit.
