Imphal, August 07 2020:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Moirangthem Okendro has expressed strong reservation against the several allegations raised by MLA RK Imo against CLP leader and ex-Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, Okendro pointed out that show cause notices were served on July 24 on two party MLAs namely; RK Imo and O Henry for their seemingly anti-party activities in the aftermath of the Rajya Sabha election held on June 19 where they voted in favour of the candidate sponsored by BJP instead of the party's own candidate.
The two MLAs gave their written replies to the show cause notices yesterday but many of the points they raised were not related to the questions asked by the party.
By expressing their wishes and opinions before the public, the two MLAs projected Congress party as bereft of any firm political principle and this is very unfortunate for the party, Okendro rued.
Pointing out that the CLP leader was appointed from amongst the party's MLAs, the MPCC president remarked that raising all kinds of allegations against the CLP leader who is supported by majority MLAs only smacked of immaturity and indecency on the part of the two MLAs.
If they still see themselves as Congress MLAs, they should uphold the party's constitution and adhere to the party's discipline and rules, Okendro said.
There is no difference of opinion or discord within Congress party.
Although every member of the party has all the right to express his or her wishes, the party's disciplinary action committee would definitely take a decision on what should be done against the party's member in case his/her actions and words challenge the collective interest of the party, said the MPCC president.
If one is a member of a National party, he/she should know the party's rules and protocol very clearly.
RK Imo's late father served as the Chief Minister of Manipur and his grandfather served as MPCC president in the past.
Even if one yearns to express one's mind, propriety of the place and time should be taken into consideration before speaking out anything, Okendro advised.
He said that he would further examine whether the explanations submitted by RK Imo and O Henry in response to the show cause notices served on them should be referred to the party's disciplinary action committee or not.
