COVID-19 death toll climbs to 10

Two more COVID-19 positive people died at JNIMS and Chandel district hospital today, taking the COVID-19 death toll to 10 in the State.
A 76 year old ex-serviceman from Leimakhong was brought to JNIMS at around 11.30 am today for COVID-19 treatment.
Even as doctors struggled hard for more than two hours, he failed to respond to any treatment and died at around 1.30 pm.
The man was suffering from diabetes as well as hypertension.
The dead body is now lying in JNIMS morgue, sources informed.
A 28 year old man brought to Chandel district hospital following health complaints died at the hospital yesterday.
He was found COVID-19 positive after his sample was tested today.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 249 people were tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours at RIMS, JNIMS, Imphal West RAT, Jiribam DH, Babina Diagnostic Centre, Tamenglong DH, Kakching DH, Ukhrul DH and , Kangpokpi DH and they included 165 personnel of CAPF and 84 civilians.
Of the 249 people tested positive during the last 24 hours, 63 have no history of travelling outside the State.
Of the 84 civilians, 14 belong to Imphal West, 37 to Thoubal including the CJM and 16 security personnel, 10 to Kakching, 12 to Tamenglong, three to Chandel, six to Bishnupur and one each to Imphal East and Kangpokpi.
So far, 694 people who have no history of travelling outside the State have been infected by COVID-19 through local transmission and the local transmission rate at the moment is 20 per cent, said the sources.
Meanwhile, two doctors, three nurses and two attendants of RIMS have been tested positive for the contagion.
On the other hand, 21 COVID-19 patients have been discharged during the last 24 hours following recovery from RIMS (6), CCC Meitram (10), CCC Kakching (4) and CCC Kamjong (1).The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the State as on Friday is 3466 (general public 2765, Central security personnel 701) including 1530 active cases (general public 829, Central security personnel 7020 and 1926 recovered cases (general public 1834, Central security personnel 93).After a doctor posted at PHC Samurou was tested positive for the virus, eight close contacts of the doctor who are residents of Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai have also been found positive.
One of them is a seven year old girl.
Further, seven residents of Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai have also been found infected by the virus after rapid antigen test and they have no history of travelling outside the State.
Seven other samples were also found positive at Thoubal after rapid antigen test.
Altogether 959 samples were tested at JNIMS today and 124 samples were found positive but their details could not be obtained till the time of filing this report.
Following detection of COVID-19 positive cases, several areas have been sealed off as containment zones.
The containment zones include areas of Leishangthem, Thoubal Assembly Constituency and Bengi Mayai Leikai, Heirok AC in Thoubal district and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Bishnupur district.
Areas of Leishangthem and Bengi Mayai Leikai in Thoubal were sealed off after four residents tested COVID-19 positive, while JNV Bishnupur was sealed off after six inmates at the quarantine centre opened at the institute tested positive.
Meanwhile, five persons outside quarantine centres have tested COVID-19 positive at Tamenglong and as containment measures, their residences have been sealed off, said a statement of Tamenglong Deputy Commissioner.
Contact tracing has been started and the five persons are now being shifted to COVID-19 Care centre at Tamenglong Higher Secondary School, added the statement.
