Body of minor rape victim claimed

Body of the 6 years old minor girl who was reportedly raped before she succumbed to her injury has been claimed by the JAC and family today from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.
The rape incident took place at Chinikon village.
A large number of locals and womenfolk where the victim belonged gathered at RIMS morgue from early morning today.
Speaking to media persons, co-convener of the JAC constituted in connection with the incident, Thounaojam Ashakiran said that the body is claimed after a 200 square feet of land was donated by villagers of Chinikon, where the heinous incident occurred, to the victim's family.
She also said that the body will be laid to rest at the land given to the victim's family besides setting up a memorial site there.
She further stated that the JAC and locals will not remain silent in the face of such crimes against women and children.
The JAC would give tireless efforts to ensure that the accused, who is a juvenile, is punished as per the law of the land.
Amu Kamei, president, Zeliangrong Union was present at the morgue today.
It may be mentioned that the rape reportedly took place on Feb 14 .
The victim, after battling for her survival, succumbed to her injury in the morning of Feb 28, two weeks after the rape incident.
Her urinary tract and intestine were severally damaged.
The rape was reported on Feb 14 after the girl, who was staying at her aunt's house at Chinikon village reportedly went missing from 6 pm onward on that day.
She was found drenched with blood with multiple injuries in her private part at a paddy field located in the village.
The rape accused was rounded up by a team of Bishnupur women PS.
Medical examination of both the victim and the accused was conducted at RIMS Forensic Sciences Dept on Feb 15 .
The accused is presently kept in an observation home.
Rongmei Lu Phuam in a press meet held some days after the heinous incident charged the accused of attempting to murder the victim.
