Several villages in the hill districts of Tamenglong and Senapati continue to suffer untold miseries due to the devastating landslides that have occurred at these areas.
In separate press releases some organizations particularly those from Tamenglong district appreciated the endeavor of Deputy Commissioner T Pamei (IAS) but nevertheless desired more efforts from the State Government to mitigate the landslide related problems like rapid shortage of essential items and problems besetting the student community of the effected areas.
Magulong NA Students' Union (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland), Tamei informing that all important suspension bridges over the Alukti and Barak rivers have been swept away by the swift river current said several parents are separated from their children till date as the water level in these rivers are in spate.
The Union also applauded the initiatives of the district DC and Tousem Sub-Divisional Officer for providing relief materials to the poor and needy.
The Zeme Naga Council Manipur, Tamenglong expressing its heartfelt gratitude to the DC for ensuring availability of essential items to the landslide effected villagers also desired that such humane service continue till the problems subside.
Hailing the Deputy Commissioner for extending material help to the landslide effected people of interior villages of Tamenglong district Rongdai (Bolongdai) Village Authority apprehended that there is possibility of outbreak of diseases at Nungba sub-division villages as the only community health centre there is facing problem of inadequate number of medical personnel.
In contrast to requirement of services of 5-7 doctors the Centre has only one doctor and dismal number of nurses who could not cope with the ever increasing number of patients that throngs the centre for treatment everyday.
The Authority thereby fervently appealed to the State Government to depute adequate medical staff and materials to address the mounting problems.
Contending that 28 houses and 50 paris of cultivable land have been destroyed beyond redemption due to the July 22 landslide at kalapahar, Mukuli and Chandraman areas, Kalapahar gram panchayat Pra-dhan Dilli Ram Poudyal fervently appealed to the Govt, NGOs and student bodies to provide relief materials to over 200 people of the area who have been rendered homeless due to the devastating natural calamity.
Minister lauded: Public Monitoring Committee, Tamenglong District has lauded Works Minister Gaikhangam for his concern to the people of the district who are reeling under scarcity of food in wake of the rodent menace which have devastated all the standing crops.
