Imphal, July 27:
As part of the ongoing campaign - Sharmila-Save Her, Universal Education and Wellbeing (UNIEDWEL), which is one of the 32 organisations spearheading the movement for revocation of Armed Forces Specials Powers Act from Manipur has updated the website www.uniedwel.tk with a new story on the brutal killing of Thangjam Manorama whose death in the custody of 17 Assam Rifles has sparked wide condemnations and vigorous demand of removal of draconian laws from Manipur.
With these revelations on the brutality of the Indian security forces, India Government and its security forces are going to face a difficult time before the international bodies and media, UNIEDWEL secretary general Lc Jinine Meitei stated in a release.
"We hope Indian security forces would not be able to save their faces any more for the excesses being committed on the people of the tiny landlocked State in front of the world communities," he said.
He informed that the website has seven pages including the newly added page on Manorama's story and other recent human rights abuses in the State.
UNIEDWEL has also sent human rights violation information to the United Nations Centre for Human Rights, Geneva; International Secretariat Amnesty International, London; UN Representative Office Amnesty International, New York; Asia Pacific Regional Office Amnesty International, Hong Kong; Forum Asia, Bangkok and other human rights related bodies around the world, Jinine informed".
Appreciating the State media for its bold and fearless pen action, UNIEDWEL secretary general further informed that the editorials of the State dailies have been put in the Fact File of the website page.
It may be noted here that www.unidwel.tk was launched in April this summer with the main objective of drawing and seeking world attention and international intervention to eliminate human rights violation.
The site entitled Save Her, however, was initially intended to focus on Irom Chanu Sharmila's ordeal and fight for removal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 fromManipur.
