Imphal, May 14 2016 :
Strongly denouncing the shifting of their polling station through a Govt order, voters of Hodam Leirak Nongpok have threatened to boycott the ensuing Imphal Municipal Corporation election if the authority concerned fails to revert the order which effect the shifting of the polling station.
Voters of Keishamthong Hodam Leirak Nongpok have been casting their votes at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak Primary School.
However, as per a recent Govt order, the polling station has been shifted to a club which is non existent in the locality.
Speaking to reporters, secretary of Hodam Leirak Yumjao Lairembi Nupi Kanglup, Laishram (O) Mangita said that in connection with the ensuing IMC poll, the ERO Lamphel published draft electoral roll on April 14.As per the draft electoral roll, Thouda Bhabok Leikai and Keishamthong Hodam Leirak Nongpok under Ward No 11 were assigned separate polling stations.
However, in the final electoral roll, the two different localities were amalgamated into a single polling station and assigned to cast their vote at 11/6 Chaokhat Thourang Kanglup Club.
Mangita further said that there is no club by that name in Hodam Leirak.
The efforts of the locals to correct the error at the concerned office did not pay any dividend.
She said that the voters should not be made victims of clerical mistake.
As such, the locals would boycott the ensuing IMC poll unless the mistake is rectified and the two localities are assigned separate polling stations in accordance with the draft electoral roll.
