Couple assault case Body for solving case as per customary law

Lamkang Naga Kver Kunpun today said that the incident where SK John (46) and his wife K Julie of Purum Pantha of Chandel district currently staying at Game Village, Langol were assaulted by miscreants on May 8 around 11:30 pm at Kwakeithel Takhel Leikai should be settled amicably as per the tribe's customary law.
Addressing media persons today at Manipur Press Club, president of the body DB Francis said the unfortunate incident might have happened because of mis-communication.
Even though police arrested several suspects after the incident, no step to punish the culprit has been taken up.
The issue should be solved at village level as per the Lamkang customary law.
Julie, recollecting the horrifying incident said they were returning home from Churachandpur after dropping a resource person who attended a function at their native village Purum Pantha, and were stopped at Kwakeithel Takhel Leikai by some youngsters for no reasons.
"We were assaulted but local meira paibis tried to rescue us," she added.
SK John was injured on the head and other areas and said that in the scuffle purse containing Rs 80,000 and other important documents were stolen.
A Santro car Reg no MN 05A 5258 was also damaged in the incident.
She alleged that the police and locals of Kwakeithel Takhel Leikai have failed to cooperage in recovering the stolen goods.
An FIR was also lodged under against the assailants, she added.
Further she said such incidents should not happen to anyone in future and it should not spark any communal tension among the communities settled in Manipur.
But the amount and other things taken by the assailants should be returned.
