Health Minister D Korungthang today inspected different health care centres of Bishnupur district namely Kwakta PHC, Moirang CHC, Ningthoukhong PHC, Bishnupur District Hospital, Nambol CHC and Leimapok-pam PHC.
The inspection team led by the Health Minister also included Nambol AC MLA N Loken, Moirang AC MLA M Prithiviraj, Health Director O Ibomcha, Bishnupur CMO and other officials.
The team inspected the ongoing construction works, health care services provided and infrastructure available at different health care centres.
The Minister was visibly gratified on seeing that Bishnupur District Hospital compound was quite neat and clean.
Interacting with doctors and staff at Leimapokpam PHC, D Korungthang categorically stated that he would never tolerate laxity on the part of health care service providers but they may demand what are required at their health care centres.
Speaking to media persons in the course of the inspection drive, the Health Minister admitted that there was shortage of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff.
The process of recruiting 21 staff nurses and 200 female health workers which was initiated in 2013 is now complete.
Results of the recruitment process could not be declared at the moment on account of the election code of conduct.
Moreover, advertisements have been published for recruitment of 163 staff nurses and 155 female health workers.
A short-list based on academic performance of the candidates would be drawn up soon before interviews are held and the results would be declared within August, Korungthang stated.
At the moment, interviews are going on for recruitment of doctors, dental surgeons, pharmacists, para-medical staff and grade IV staff.
Manpower shortage currently plaguing health sector can be made up to some extent when these recruitments are completed, Korungthang added.
