Delimitation: CPI(M) suggests all-party meeting

The Manipur State Secretariat of the CPI (M) has urged the Central Government and authorities concerned not to conduct delimitation in the State based on 2001 Census data, claiming that the data shows abnormal population growth in 9 Subdivisions of Manipur.
In a statement, CPI (M), Manipur State Committee further claimed that the data indicates population growth as high as 143% in some Subdivisions of Manipur.
Cautioning that the law and order situations of Manipur may be deteriorated to the worse if the Government conduct the delimitation which was deferred under Section 10 A of the Delimitation Act 2002, CPI(M) Manipur State Secretariat demanded amendment of the Delimitation Act 2002 to stop delimitation based on Census 2001 in the interest of the general population of the State.
All the political parties in Manipur are united on the delimitation issue and two rounds of all parties meeting were held at Imphal, it said and appealed to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to convene another all parties meet immediately in the interest of all.
