Imphal, July 05 2020:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has dismissed the charge made by Soibam Subashchandra who was elected to the State Assembly on BJP ticket but resigned recently that he was forced to write the resignation letter by Congress.
Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, MPCC vice-president Dr Kh Ratankumar pointed out that Soibam Subashchandra told media persons at a press meet held on June 17 that he had resigned from the membership of both BJP and Manipur Legislative Assembly.
By then, he had already submitted his resignation letter to the State Assembly and his resignation was approved by the Speaker.
Subsequently, the Assembly Secretary published bulletin, part-2 on June 18 whereby Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly seat was declared vacant, Dr Ratankumar said.
Saying that the truth of the matter would be determined by Court, Ratankumar remarked that people would find it preposterous when they hear that an MLA has been forced to resign against his will.
Reacting to S Subashchandra's charge that he was forced to write the resignation letter by Congress, the MPCC vice-president dismissed the same allegation as baseless.
With many politicians/MLAs hopping from one party to another every now and then, people have lost faith in all politicians, he said.
"I sometimes think I should retire from politics after seeing the comments and posts uploaded by citizens, particular youngsters in social media", Dr Ratankumar said.
It is a matter of grave concern that people now see politicians as bereft of integrity as a result of some politicians hopping from one party to another every now and then without any principle,
he added.
