Imphal, Jul 1:
BSF officials have flatly rejected report of fleeing of around 300 trainees, all former Bo-do militants of Assam, from their Churachandpur Training Centre yesterday due to alleged ill-treatment by the authorities.
We strongly deny such report and it is unfounded and totally baseless', retorted a BSF officer when The Sangai Express contacted him today.
However, the officer admitted, there was some pro- blem, but it was resolved amicably.
The former ultras who laid down arms and surrendered after an agreement with the Centre were subsequently recruited in the BSF and undergoing training at the BSF Subsidiary Training Centre located in Churachandpur district for the last 45 days.
According to sources, the trouble began when an officer at the training camp ill-treated the trainees and punishment at the slightest provocation.
Finding no other way to bear the tough stance of the said officer, the trainees moved out of their camp yesterday morning.
On the other hand, Churachandpur Police were unaware of the development.
When contacted, an officer at the police station said no missing report regarding the BSF trainees had been lodged by BSF authorities.
However, he hastened to add that he himself saw a large number of BSF personnel many of whom still in their physical training suits, moving at Churachandpur Bazar with some BSF vehicles following close behind them yesterday morning.
