To highlight alleged ill-treatment meted out to North East students in Delhi, various student organisations from the region formed the North East Students Joint Action Committee, Delhi and decided to hold a massive rally on July 25 at the national capital.
The rally is being organised to highlight the con- dition of NE students in Delhi.
The decision to form the committee was taken during a meeting held on June 10.The committee was constituted with K Mughato Luc- ky, Naga Students' Union, Delhi as convenor, Seram Rojesh, Manipur Students' Assn, Delhi and B Lalzar-liana, Delhi Mizo Zillai Pawl as secretaries, Thongmang Haokip, Kuki Students' Organisation, Delhi as finance secretary and Bikash Saikia, Assam Students' Association, Delhi as treasurer.
On the problems faced by the NE students in Delhi, the committee met the Chief Ministers of Manipur, Mi-zoram and Nagaland and MPs of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
It is pertinent to mention that the committee held a protest march on June 14 at the Delhi University Vice-Chancellor's office to protest the dress code issued by the Virender Kumar, acting principal Kirori Mal College and submitted a memorandum.
The DU authorities issued a apology letter in this regard.
The committee also submitted a memorandum dealing with the same issue including an objection to the pamphlets issued by Dharamraksha Shri Dara Sena criticising the NE students to the President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam and other heads of the States.
