Kuki Movement for Human Rights (KUMHUR) has sought the intervention of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to stop illegal tax collection, killing of domestic animals and threatening of villagers in Tamenglong district by NSCN (I-M) cadres.
In an open message faxed to the Prime Minister, KUMHUR chairman Dr T Lunkim complained against continued imposition of tax and violation of the �Ceasework Ground Rules' by NSCN (I-M) despite the matter being brought to he notice of the Prime Minister time and again.
Enclosing photo copies of the receipt vouchers of the tax collected by NSCN (I-M), the human rights body alleged that although general secretary of the Naga rebel outfit Thuingaleng Muivah always blamed the security forces with violating the Ceasefire Ground Rules agreed with the Government of India, it is his cadres who keep collecting taxes illegally from the people of Tamenglong district at gun point.
One of the enclosed receipt vouchers signed by S/Maj Johny, Operation Goodwill Commander, read, �received with thanks a sum of Rs 2720 only from Longphailun on account of ration tax and house tax for the year, 2005'.The receipt voucher which has the impression of a round seal with Nagalim for Christ inscribed around with Government of the People Republic of Nagalim inside with the logo of the outfit was signed on June 5, 2005.
Similarly another receipt voucher signed by tax collector Captain Lovejoy, NP Battalion, Naga army ,NSCN (I-M) dated 24/5/2005 notified to all chairmen and secretaries concerned for submitting the ration tax collection amounting to Rs 120 per house without fail by May 28.
