Imphal, August 28 2014:
United People's Front (UPF) celebrated its 16th Foundation Day at Manipur Press Club today.
Centre for Social Development (CSD) secretary U Nobokishore, UPF president BM Yaima Shah, Kuki Women Union Manipur president Rose Mangsi Haokip, All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) president Wangkhemcha Shyamjai and United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Y Nabachandra attended the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, U Nobokishore said that every movement has its adversaries and people must remain motivated during difficult times as well to achieve their goal.
He alluded to South Korea's freedom struggle which, started by a group of women later became a mass movement.
Manipur would become a sovereign nation one day if the people of the State carry forward the movement together, Nobokishor added.
Stating that he does not have much confidence in Narendra Modi Government, he said that corruption is the root cause for all the problems being faced in the State.
While speaking at the function, BM Yaima said that Manipur now has over 7 lakh unemployed youths.
Contending that the State Government does not have any vision or plan to provide employment to these youths, he continued that the spinning mill, sugar factory and cement factory in the State lay covered in dust due to Government's inefficiency.
Many unemployed youths, on the otherhand, are frustrated and have resorted to adopting wrong path for livelihood, he added.
Speaking on the event, Wangkhemcha Shyamjai, AMWJU president said that every movement needs collective effort.
No goal, he said, could be achieved without people's support.
He also emphasised on the need to elect leaders who would work for the welfare of the people.
Y Nabachandra said that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi's speech given during Independence Day celebration had indicated that the State Government is not committed to implement ILPS.
He further expressed concern over lack of sincerity among some leaders of civil society organisations.
