DESAM submits charter of demands

Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has today submitted 15-point charter of demands for improvement of Highr education in the State to the Education Minister, Secretary to CM, and Commissioner of Higher Education.
If the Government fulfills the demands raised by DESAM, it would help in checking the outflow of many students outside the state to pursue higher education and thereby help in improvement of the State's unstable economy, said Wangmayum Islamuddin while addressing the media today at its office.
The charter of demands included installation of bio-metric system in all colleges in order to check the regularity of teachers; opening of model college equipped with adequate and upto-date infrastructure at all districts; appointment of regular principals at some colleges; appointment of Higher Education Director; to provide full-strength library and internet facilities at all colleges; to prepare seniority lists of college lecturers; to conduct national level seminars, conferences, and workshops for teachers; to provide adequate infrastructure for the setting up of management course at DM College; to set up women's college in all districts; to set up institutes where students can pursue courses like tourism, foreign languages etc.
Speaking at the occasion, Vice-President of DESAM, M Angamba said there has been gap between the authority who prepared the MU academic calendar and the examination authority.
He said admission for the fifth semister has been announced when even the fourth semister examination is due to be conducted.
