Stage set to break Guinness World Record: PK Singh

The stage is set for the largest Samajik Adhikarita Shivir and Distribution of Aids and Assistive Devices to Persons with Disabilities (DIVYANGJAN) to be held tomorrow at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium, Imphal, Commissioner for Health and Family Welfare and Information Technology PK Singh said in an interaction with media persons at the venue today.
Keeping a keen eye on the preparations taken up for the Grand Hearing Aid Distribution scheduled for tomorrow, PK Singh said the distribution programme is being organised by the Programme for Prevention and Control of Deafness, National Health Mission, Manipur in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJ&E) and the Government of India.

Over 6,464 patients will be provided free hearing aid at the programme.
These patients were identified during the 49 camps that conducted across the State under the National Health Mission, Manipur.
During the camps, over 12,000 patients were screened.
The total cost of the hearing (about Rs 6.5 crore) is all borne by ALIMCO and all the required materials have arrived in the State.
The programme attempts to enter in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest number of hearing aids distributed to persons with disabilities.
The Police Department, Power Department, PHED, Relief and Disaster Management are extending their fullest support to make the attempt a success, he said.
"Earlier such attempt was made by Gujarat and they hold a record of 600 patients.
We are hopeful that our attempt will surpass them by a bigger margin," PK said.
Arrangements to accommodate more than 10,000 people have been made.
Over 400 well trained volunteers from RK Sanatombi B.Ed College, JNIMS and Manipur University are extending their help for success of the programme.
Steps to provide food, drinking water and proper sanitary care has also been made, he added.
Adequate arrangements are made to accommodate the huge number of patients.
36 cameras will provide live feed to the Guinness World Record office in London to make the official attempt a record breaking feat.
The entire process of fitting hearing aid to a patient takes less than 10 minutes and 150 audiologists will work to fit all the hearing aids within eight hours.
The record breaking attempt will start from 8 am tomorrow at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium.
PK Singh has urged the people of Manipur to extend their fullest support in making the official attempt a success and to etch a position in the Guinness Book of World Records.
