If the BJP's Central Government can announce that 33 per cent seats would be reserved for women in Parliament and State Assemblies, Congress party would extend full support to any such move, stated MP Dr Th Meinya.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of a newly constructed multipurpose community hall at Yairipok Laimanai today.
He asserted that women can now participate directly in development programmes taken up at rural areas after 33 per cent seats were reserved for women in local bodies at the initiative of Congress party when it was in power at the Centre.
A Bill for reservation of 33 per cent seats for women in Parliament and State Assemblies was moved by the UPA Government.
Even though, the Bill was approved by one House of the Parliament, it was yet to be approved by the other House.
MLA Th Shyamkumar appealed to the gathering not to opt for a new representative so that he can continue and complete different development projects taken up within Andro AC.
He went on to exude confidence that the Congress party would retain power after the 11th Manipur State Legislative Assembly election.
Informing that Azad Higher Secondary School has now started receiving grants from the Government of India, Shyamkumar said that he has been working hard to upgrade Top Chingtha High School as a Government model school.
