MPCB Chairman Dr Ng Bijoy inaugurates LED display board

Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) Chairman MLA Dr Ng Bijoy in the presence of MPCB Member Secretary T Mangi and other staff inaugurated the LED moving display board of MPCB installed at Western Kangla gate today.
Speaking at the inaugural function MLA Dr Ng Bijoy said the LED display board (scrolling message board) has been installed at Kangla Western gate to inform the masses of the quantity of noise pollution emitted in urban areas.
The board will display the quantity of noise pollution, air pollution and water pollution emitted in urban areas on a daily basis with a hope that the masses will become more responsible towards preserving the environment, he said.

The board will display various data like the daily quantity of noise pollution in Imphal area.
The MPCB Chairman further pressed the need to ban old vehicles, which is among the major air pollutants, in Manipur as practised in some States of India.
He further urged the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) to ban the use and sale of plastic whose thickness is below 40 micron.
"IMC should conduct mass awareness and make sure the shopkeepers follow their recommendations", he said adding that the MPCB has conducted awareness programmes at Moreh on the topic.
"An Indian company is presently working on manufacturing a bio-degradable carry bags.
We should all support the initiative by switching to these organic products", Dr Bijoy said.
The MPCB Chairman further expressed disappointment that the majority of the people have not sense of proper disposal of their refuse be it at home, hotel or market places.
"Very soon people throwing refuses on improper places will be fined or even jailed", he added.
