Imphal, November 04 2016:
Following an understanding with the State Government, oil tanker drivers have agreed to suspend their indefinite strike for seven days.
Following the agreement, IOC's Chingmeirong oil depot resumed its normal operations from this afternoon and the depot started supplying fuel to retail outlets.
As such, oil pumps are expected to resume distribution of fuel to public from tomorrow.
A meeting was held between the agitating oil tanker drivers and the Government in the office chamber of CAF&PD Minister Ksh Biren this morning.
Apart from CAF&PD Minister Ksh Biren, CAF&PD Principal Secretary, IOC's State Level Coordinator, Senior Depot Manager, functionaries of All Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters Association and the All Manipur Petroleum Products Drivers Association were also present at the meeting.
The meeting agreed to send a representation to the Union Petroleum Minister with an appeal to exempt Manipur from IOC's new policy of Expression of Interest (EOI) and wait for the Ministry's response for seven days.
The transporters' bodies maintained that they would resume their strike if the Ministry's response is not satisfactory.
