Ukhrul, June 18 2010:
Assam Rifles personnel in civvies and coming in two gypsies without registration numbers broke down two doors of a hotel run by one Isaac at the Finch Corner at the junction road of Phungyar to Kamjong.
The incident occurred on June 17, at around 2 am.
The Tangkhul Action Committee (TCC) in a statement said that, the incident occurred when Isaac along with his wife and four children were sleeping in their house cum hotel.
The AR personnel after breaking the door frisked the house and beaten up children who were sleeping and drag outside to lay half-naked on the street.
On hearing the commotion, womenfolk from neighbouring houses came out with "zarmei" (torch) and protested against the inhuman treatment towards the villagers.
The AR officers in civil dress told them to go home and rest.
But the womenfolk insisted to stay and keep vigilant till dawn.
On being enquired by the womenfolk, the officers reportedly told that they were from the Shangshak Post located 7 km from Finch Corner where the incident occurred.
They pretended to head towards the Shangshak Post and drove 2-3 km away to hold up there for more than four hours but later drove back towards Ukhrul side.
The TCC strongly condemned the incident lamenting that the AR is breaching the peace prevailing in the Naga areas.
It is disheartening to learn and observe the cowardly act of some Indian Arm Forces indulging in harassing the innocent civilians.
The TCC will lodge a formal complaint to the authority concern for necessary action.
It also questioned the necessity of provoking peace when there is mutual and peaceful co-existence shared between the peoples and the arm forces especially the Assam Rifles.
