Two prisoners set free

Two prisoners who were sentenced for life in connection with murder cases have been set free on the occasion of National Day.
The two prisoners identified as Sandham Tomba (63) of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, Imphal West district and Moirangthem Ibobi (79) of Yairipok Top Chingtha, Thoubal district who were languishing in prison for more than 14 years were released based on the recommendation of Jail Advisory Board.
Sandam Tomba was sentenced to 18 years in jail on June 4, 1998 for killing the father of a man who abducted and raped her daughter.
Moirangthem Tomba was sentenced to 17 years and 14 days in jail on March 9, 1999 for killing a man during a brawl.
They were set free from Sajiwa Jail at 11 am today and were handed over to their families by ADGP MK Das and Sajiwa Jail SP IK Muivah.
Since 1999, the Government has released six prisoners who were sentenced for life on the occasion of the National Day (August 15).
