Imphal, August 16, 2012:
With reports of fresh violence targeting Northeast students erupting in parts of Pune and Bangalore, Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress would be sending a delegation to Delhi on August 19 and pressed the Central government for taking up necessary measures to protect the student from North East studying outside the region including the Manipuri students.
Addressing media persons in this regard at it party's office here today, Kim Gangte, President of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress said that as a spillover effect of the communal clashes in Assam, the students from North East studying in different parts of the country particularly in Pune and Bangalore are being reportedly attacked on communal grounds.
The act is highly condemnable.
A delegation of the party would be leaving for Delhi on August 19 to meet the Prime Minister and the Home Minister in the regard and pressed them for taking up the issue in the Parliament.
The State and the Central government should come up with ways and means to solve the problem and bring peace for all before the issue gets bigger.
It may not be a wise move on the part of the state Government to keep silent at such a crucial time when many of the students from the state are returning home due to the incident of assaults on Manipuri students occurring in some places of Karnataka and Pune, she added.
Simply making an announcement that possible steps have been taken up and proclaiming that nothing will happen won't, Kim Gangte cautioned, adding that 'we should not allow another Richard Loitam case to come up'.
