Jiribam, August 31 2009:
Kaiphundai Students' Union has called a 24-hour bandh along NH-53 from today midnight in protest against the failure of the State Government to punish the IRB jawans who bashed up the vice-president of the union, reports our correspondent.
KSU vice-president Kakhandai Gangmei, who is still undergoing treatment, was thrashed severely by personnel of B-Coy of 5th IRB at a place between Khongshang and Rengpang on NH-53 on July 25 last.
Alleging that the security team also snatched away the gold chain of Kakhandai, the union identified Dingamlung alias Abei as one of the jawans who was involved in the incident.
KSU had earlier set August 31 as the deadline to punish the accused.
The union further warned that more intense agitations would continue until their demand is fulfilled.
