Imphal, October 29 2014:
The Vigilance Awareness Week, 2014 has kicked-started at the CBI Manipur Branch office in Lamphelpat today.
Head of CBI Manipur Branch, S Balasubramany, Inspectors W Ashokumar and Gourav Singh, and Additional Superintendent of Police L Hangshing shared the dais on the occasion.
Speaking at the occasion, S Balasubramany said the CBI cannot interfere in the corruption scams in Manipur unless the State Government wants to hand them over to the investigating agency.
The Central Bureau of Investigation can handle any type of graft case only after a decision in this regard is taken by the State Government, he added.
Balasubramany said people can initially approach a Court for cases related to corruption and in the next step the CBI can initiate investigation into the cases after obtaining directive from the Court concerned.
He said unlike graft cases that are concerned with States, the CBI handles cases involving Departments functioning under the Central Government.
Balasubramany further said that the main objective for observing the Vigilance Awareness Week is to put in maximum efforts to check corruption by using new technologies.
The week-long awareness programme which was inaugurated on October 27 would continue till November 1 .
