Rishang Keishing asks children to stay away from drugs

/, Oct 29: A day after celebrating his 96th birthday at his Imphal residence, Dr.Rishang Keishing visited school children in Ukhrul and advised them to stay away from drugs, while sharing a timeless message of love, peace and harmony among humanity.
The nonagenarian Dr.Rishang Keishing met school children at Savio School, where he was accorded a warm reception by the fraternity of the elite educational institution with songs and dances.
"The students must stay from drugs�to concentrate more on studies and nobler things in life," he asked the students, who listened in rapt attention to the eloquent speech of an iconic and charismatic man.

He urged the student community to embrace the value of love, harmony and brotherhood while quoting reference to the Christ's teaching: "Love each other as I loved you" .
A veteran politician-turned devout Christian messenger Dr Keishing arrived at Ukhrul at around 10pm and met pastors at Ukhrul Town Baptist Church (UTBC), Phungreitang.
He interacted with the Christian workers at the ongoing pastor conference under the aegis of Tangkhul Naga Baptist Association (TNBCA) .
In spite of his aging difficulties, the former chief minister and MP was at his best as he met and interacted with well wishers and students today.
Dr.Keishing was so impressed and felt emotional by the sight of vibrant school children at Savio School.
In his address, he walked down a memory lane and shared his school days of early 1930s in Ukhrul.
The grand old man likened the students in red-coloured uniform to a 'ripened king chillies'and prayed that they continue to live in good health and mind.
He also shared anecdotes of some Tangkhul greats like Manipur's ex-chief minister Yangmaso Shaiza and Wungmareo Shaiza, a former chief secretary of Delhi.
He stated that God has prepared Tangkhuls to spread and share the message of love and peace, but expressed dismay that the community has gone the other way.

Dr.Father Sabu, in his earlier welcome address, termed the visiting dignitary as a person "so simple, so humble," while expressing gratitude for making his presence felt among the school children.
"Your (Dr.Keishing) presence�is much more than a message, life itself is a message� a great inspiration to the students," said Fr.Sabu.
