Trade Centre to be ready by March : Govindas

Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam has stated that construction work of the Main Permanent Exhibition cum Trade Centre comprising of four halls at Lamboikhongnangkong will be completed in March next year.
Necessary works have been taken up to hand over the same to the people after its completion, added Govindas.
Accompanied by officers and engineers concerned, the Minister surveyed the works which are underway and significantly, the Permanent Exhibition cum Trade Centre is the first of its kind in the North East region.
Editors drawn from the print and electronic media accompanied the Minister during the inspection tour.
Speaking to the media persons later, the Minister said that the Permanent Exhibition cum Trade Centre is being built under financial assistance from the Centre to the tune of Rs 200 crore.
Out of the total Rs 200 crore earmarked for the Trade Centre, Rs 40 crore have been released.
The area needed for the Centre to come up is about 35 acres, said the Minister and added that just behind the complex there is an additional land of 70 acres.
Developmental works will also be taken up on the 70 acres of land, added Govindas.
The complex for which work is underway has plans to house four conference halls, a hall to conduct press conference and for other purposes, added the Minister.
Govindas further said that Rs 34 crore have been earmarked for the conference halls.
There will be enough space to set up 50 stalls, each measuring 10 ft by 10 ft during any mela or fair.
The halls will also be fitted with audio-visual facilities, he added.
The Government planned to keep the halls ready for the Sangai Festival, said the Minister and added that this however could not materialise as too many days were lost due to frequent bandhs and blockades.
However hectic preparations are underway to complete construction work of the halls by March next year, the Minister added.
Stating that the complex can seat 8000 people at one time, the Minister said that there are plans to construct an open air theatre with a seating capacity of 500 .
Necessary detailed reports have been sent to the Ministry concerned, he added.
The complex will also house four cinema halls and shopping malls.
Plans are also on to build a water body resembling the Pena, said Govindas and added that a parking lot will be set up where 200 vehicles can be parked.
Talking on other details, the Minister said that the approach road to the complex will have a width of 75 feet and trees will be planted by the sides of the approach road.
Over and above this, the complex will also have a power loom sector for which the foundation stone has been laid recently.
