Sit-in-protest at Thoubal

Thoubal, July 18 2013:
Demanding befitting punishment to the culprits involved in the rape of a 19-year-old girl from Yairipok Changamdabi, a sit-in-protest was staged at Azad Bazar, Yairipok Tulihal today.
The protest was jointly organised by Apunba Nupi Khunai Lamjing Meira Lup, Imphal East, Yairipok branch and Kangleipak Women Welfare Association, Thoubal.
Taking part at the demonstration, president of Apunba Nupi Khunai Lamjing Meira Lup, Yairipok branch, Ibetombi lambasted police for being not able to arrest the rapists although the incident happened around a month back.
She also said that the victim had already identified the rapist to the Chief Minister.
Ibetombi also expressed shock on being remained silent by women MLAs regarding the growing number of crimes against women.
Saying that a person who was allegedly involved in the case was handed over to DGP Y Joykumar in the presence of local MLA, Ibetombi said that no action is however visible so far.
Demanding early punishment to the culprits, Ibetombi also requested the DGP to translate his promise into action.
