Ukhrul Executive Council demands new DC

Ukhrul Executive Council has demanded that a senior officer who is familiar with the district be appointed as Deputy Commissioner of the district.
Speaking to the media today at the Manipur Press Club, Chairman of UEC, Edmund Chiphang said the administration of Ukhrul district suffered a set-back as one of the most sensitive districts is looked after by an SDO .
Not only his lack of experiences, the present DC In-charge is overburdened as he is in-charge of other offices which resulted in mal-administration.
As such, a senior officer who is well aware of situation in Ukhrul be appointed as its DC, Chiphang demanded.
Stating that Ukhrul district witnessed increase of crimes, Chiphand added that the law and order maintaining agency has also failed to execute their duty due to inadequate manpower at the district headquarters.
He further suggested that two police stations be opened at the district headquarters so as to improve the law and order situation while adding that presently there are One Inspector, five SIs, four ASIs and 44 constables at Ukhrul district headquarters.
Edmund Chiphang also stated that the district headqarters becomes more congested as several individuals have opened chicken and fish centres right in front of the SDO quarters along NH-150 .
The incumbent DC has failed to hear the plea made by the people to evict encroachers, Edmund contended.
