To denounce disruption of Parliament, BJP stages fast cum protest

Imphal, April 12 2018: As done across the country, BJP Manipur Pradesh today staged a protest demonstration cum fast at their Nityaipat Chuthek office against disruption and stalling proceedings of the Parliament by Opposition parties.

Th protest cum fast led by BJP Manipur Pradesh president K Bhabananda (Rajya Sabha MP) was also participated by the party's North East in-charge Prahlad Patel, former president Th Chaoba, MAHUD Minister Th Shyamkumar, MLA Susindro (Yaima) and many other party leaders and workers.

Speaking at the gathering Prahlad Patel said that any act of stalling the proceedings of Parliament is an antithesis to the very spirit of democracy.

Parliament is the highest platform where all public issues should be discussed and best possible solutions are explored.

It is a place for healthy debate, not for verbal duel, he said.

All Bills and any matter of public interest can be debated in the Parliament but disrupting the proceedings is unethical to say the least, Prahlad Patel added.

Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda said that BJP has been compelled to stage the protest cum fast agitation across the country as no business could be conducted during the recently concluded 21 days of Parliamentary session due to disturbances and disruptions by Opposition parties.

Parliament is just like a temple in a democracy.

All political, social and economic matters of the country should be discussed in Parliament but ruckus and commotion remained a permanent scene of the last session and it was the handiwork of Opposition parties led by Congress, Bhabananda said.

National Sports University Bill was to be tabled in the Parliament but the Government was unable to table the same Bill due to continuous disruptions, he continued.

Likewise, nine other key Bills could not be tabled in the Rajya Sabha.

Despite repeated attempts for four consecutive days, the Prevention of Corruption Bill 2013 could not be passed, he lamented.

BJP Manipur Pradesh vice-president M Asnikumar who also took part in the fast cum protest said that people have been living with corruption for decades and addressing corruption at high places has always been problematic.

Stating that disruption is totally unacceptable in any Parliamentary system, Asnikumar asserted that matters of public interest are more important than personal vendetta or any leader's ego.

The ball is now in the Opposition's Court to sustain the stand-off or engage in meaningful debates.

It's time for all political parties to find a common meeting ground and work out a solution rather than engaging in a game of one-upmanship, Asnikumar said.

It is reported that similar protest agitation were also staged at many other places of the State.
